Josua Sickinger
Josua Sickinger has been a research associate at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) since 2023. His path into research began with an apprenticeship as a carpenter and continued through a Bachelor’s degree in Timber Construction (B. Eng., TH Rosenheim) and a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering (M. Sc., HafenCity University Hamburg).
His research focuses on timber and lightweight structures, particularly on cable net structures with uniform mesh and their in-plane shear stiffness in double-curved geometries. His goal is to advance innovative construction systems through both experimental and theoretical approaches.
In teaching, he is involved in introductory courses on statics and strength of materials for architecture students as well as hands-on workshops on working with wood and tools. He aims to inspire students to explore the potential of both traditional building methods and innovative materials, and to foster interdisciplinary collaboration between architecture and engineering.
